Read the story behind the art
Donnie came along for the Delaware trip, and New Castle felt as if somebody had turned the clock back. Cobblestone streets, small old buildings, and the waterfront gave us plenty to wander through. On the second day, which was my birthday, I found this church with graves all around it and a brick wall and gates enclosing the place. It made a great subject. I love the color and the frame on this one. A birthday photo walk through a graveyard sounds like a strange celebration, but apparently that is my idea of a good time.

Read about this meal
Jessop’s Tavern sat among the old buildings on Delaware Street, with a period theme and staff dressed for it. Donnie and I started with sweet potato fries and caramel. I had never dipped fries in caramel before; now I knew I could finish an entire enormous serving of them. I almost ordered the pot pie, but Donnie steered me to the Pilgrim’s Feast. The plate was huge and I finished it anyway. For dessert I tried the Chocolate Trilogy, with three kinds of chocolate and bark on top. It sounded better than it tasted, but yes, I finished that too. My commitment to research is apparently limitless.

Where I ranNew Castle Battery Park 1 Delaware St, New Castle, DE 19720
I started by New Castle Battery Park and covered 5.91 miles in 1:00:58. My average pace was 10:18 per mile, and the watch counted just 83 feet of climbing. Mile one was 9:46, with the later miles slowing to 11:35 by mile six. I liked seeing the streets and waterfront on foot before Donnie and I wandered around for the picture the next day. Delaware got its run, and my birthday got a churchyard photograph. Those sound unrelated until you read this journal.
