Read the story behind the art
I drove around Exeter more than once looking for the right picture, and a lot of what I liked involved water. There was a shot on Court Street that almost won. Then I stood on Spring Bridge and saw this stretch of river moving through the snow. The water had more energy than the Court Street scene, and that settled it. Snow standing still, river refusing to. I liked that contrast.
The bridge's name is apparently the entire address: 6 Spring Bridge. No street, road, or avenue required. I gave the photograph a darker treatment and a faded, dissolved frame around the edges. I like how it came out, though I really should have written down exactly how I did it. Future me is going to want to steal that trick from past me.

Read about this meal
At Station 19 Nineteen I started with seasoned hand-cut fries. I still don't know what the seasoning was, but I do know I liked it. Then I had pesto chicken and tortelloni. The portion looks small in the photo, but it was a decent size, and I licked the plate clean. That is my very sophisticated restaurant review.
For dessert I chose a warm oatmeal-raisin cookie skillet with vanilla ice cream. Of course it was amazing. After the burnt pretzels and underwhelming mac and cheese in Chester, Exeter seemed determined to make it up to me. I was willing to let it try.

Where I ranThe Exeter Inn, 90 Front Street, Exeter, NH 03833
My Exeter run covered 6.24 miles in 1:06:56, with an average pace of 10:43 per mile. The weather read 34°F. I'd like to thank February for its consistency. Mile one was 9:36; mile six was 11:30. Apparently I believe in making a strong first impression and then negotiating the terms. Still, New Hampshire got its run, and I got another little piece of the fifty-state idea into the books. Exeter also had tortelloni and a cookie skillet. A town with priorities.
