Read the story behind the art
At Chipley Park by Lake DeFuniak, I tried something new for this project: a composite built from several photographs instead of a single shot. Duck Train puts the old red railcar under the tree, with the lake and a duck sharing the scene. Getting the waterline and the fence area to work took a lot of fiddling. I like how the tree frames the left and top; I considered brightening the duck, but thought that would make it look less natural. I’m still deciding whether composites belong in the rest of this journal. This one definitely made me work for it.

Read the story behind the art
These are the source photographs I used to make Duck Train. I included them because this was my first composite in the state project, and I wanted to show where its pieces came from. The finished image appears on the preceding Art page. Seeing the original parts beside the result also makes it clear why getting the waterline and fence to sit together took more work than I expected.

Read about this meal
Bogey’s sat near Chipley Park and had old film posters and pictures on the walls. I was there around two, with only one other table occupied, so lunch was quiet. I started with French onion soup. It was ordinary and could have been bigger. The Cobb salad was much better: grilled chicken over greens with egg, avocado, tomatoes, bacon, and blue cheese. I chose Caesar dressing and liked the salad far more than the soup. I was not very hungry going in, so the whole meal ended up feeling comfortable and fairly average. Sometimes that is the review.

My Florida run looped around Lake DeFuniak and covered 5.53 miles in 1:02:17. The watch recorded an 11:15 average pace and 94 feet of elevation gain. The map makes the route look pleasingly simple: lake in the middle, me going around it. Chipley Park also supplied the pieces for Duck Train, my first composite Art image in this project. Florida's run and photo were close enough together that I did not have to turn the day into a complicated expedition. The editing later made up for that.
