Read the story behind the art
On my Jamestown run I spotted a couple of battered old Volkswagen Beetles in a driveway and marked the place in my head for a photograph. Ed and I came back, and while I was shooting, the owners arrived. One asked whether I wanted to buy a car. Instead, we ended up talking and being invited to see their overgrown garden and beehives. They were interesting people, and this picture grew out of that visit. The Queens Way sign had been given to them; I remember being told it may have come from their son. I changed the sign’s green to a rainbow design in my finished piece. I like the result, and I did not have to buy a Beetle.

“The pasta was the best meal of this northern trip. Finding the building, apparently, was the hardest part.”
Read about this meal
After Ed and I spent a good while talking with the couple from the photo stop, we headed downtown to Sabirs Buffalo Grill. We drove past it twice before finding it, despite the restaurant being right there on a busy street. I skipped an appetizer and ordered Philly steak and cheese pasta. It was terrific; I wanted a larger portion, or possibly a second one. Ed had a burger that did not look as appealing to me. My white-chocolate blueberry cheesecake was just average. The pasta was the best meal of this northern trip. Finding the building, apparently, was the hardest part.

Where I ranLawrence Field 600 15th St SE, Jamestown, ND 58401
I started around Lawrence Field and covered 5.58 miles of Jamestown in 1:02:05, averaging 11:07 per mile. The watch counted 47 feet of climbing, which made this one of the flatter runs on the trip. Along the route I noticed the old Beetles in a driveway. That led Ed and me back to the house, then to a conversation with the owners, their garden, and my Queens Way photograph. I set out for the North Dakota run and got an unexpectedly good human story as a bonus. The cars weren't even for sale to me in the end.
