Read the story behind the art
Ed and I drove from South Dakota into Iowa, passing a lot of open land on the way to Larchwood. The city park had a water-play area that looked entertaining enough for kids and, honestly, for me too. There were paths, benches, a tennis area, and a building that looked set up for events. I found this bench near the building and liked the tall tree beside it. The picture became have a seat. Iowa was quieter than some of the other stops, but I could still find a place worth pausing for.

Read about this meal
There were not many restaurant choices around Larchwood. Ed and I went to Grand Falls Casino, where the steak place looked tempting but would not open for hours. We settled on the Big Drop Cafe. My sweet onion teriyaki wrap was smaller than I wanted, though the sauce was good. Ed’s pot roast looked more substantial, and he seemed happy with it. I finished with a cookie. My original notes call it oatmeal raisin, while the picture looks like chocolate chip, so I’ll let the photograph settle that argument. The casino itself was small enough that our walk around it took about five minutes. Still, the day with Ed was fun.

Where I ranLarchwood City Park FH37+G2 Larchwood, Iowa
Starting near Larchwood City Park, I covered 5.40 miles in 1:00:06. The watch recorded an 11:08 average pace and 142 feet of elevation gain. The map shows the route heading out of town into the surrounding open land and back again. That fits the Iowa scenery Ed and I saw on the drive: there was a lot of space between things. The park gave me my bench-and-tree photograph, so the quieter stop still checked all three boxes. My lunch wrap, on the other hand, could have used a little more space on the plate.
