Read the story behind the art
Donnie explored Kingman while I ran from the visitor center. Across from it was a train engine on display, and I considered making that the Arizona picture. During the run, though, I passed a weathered house on Topeka Street and remembered it. We drove back so I could take the shot. The boarded door, tree along the right edge, warm tone, and even the telephone wires all ended up helping the picture. I originally thought I might remove the wires, but the image grew on me as it was. The train had competition, and the house won.

“Donnie enjoyed his meal too. So: good pasta, interesting walls, and service I could have lived without.”
Read about this meal
Donnie and I picked Calico’s, a diner-style place that did not give me especially high hopes from the outside. I had chicken soup, five-cheese tortelloni with chicken, and turtle cheesecake. The meal was better than I expected. The waitress was rude, which did not improve the experience, but I did like the wallpaper full of places to visit in Arizona. At least I had reading material while waiting for food. Donnie enjoyed his meal too. So: good pasta, interesting walls, and service I could have lived without.

Where I ranKingman Visitor Center 120 W Andy Devine Ave, Kingman, AZ 86401
I began at the Kingman Visitor Center and covered 5.34 miles in 1:03:41. The average pace was 11:56 per mile, and the watch recorded 358 feet of climbing. The route took me past the old house that would become my Arizona Art photograph. I considered using the train engine near the visitor center, but that weathered house stayed in my head after the run. The route did what these runs sometimes do best: it gave me a little time to look around and find the picture I actually wanted.
