Read the story behind the art
I passed this little pond and bridge while running near South Beach Park and came back to work out the picture. The bridge divides the warmer gold from the black-and-white parts of the photograph, which I like. I’m less sure about the thin lines in the frame, though the tilt has grown on me. The title caused more trouble than the photograph: after several days of trying to name it, I gave up and called it Fairhope. Sometimes the town’s name gets the job because the naming department has gone home.

Read about this meal
Road construction made Tamara’s Downtown harder to find than the address suggested. I parked along the side, found the entrance, and had the dining room to myself around two. I began with honey-pecan baked brie, which was my first time trying brie and nearly a meal on its own. The New England clam chowder was mild and just okay, but I finished it. My waitress recommended the stir-fry pork chop, and she was right: that thing was freaking insane. The photographs also show banana toffee cake; my original notes did not leave me a verdict on dessert, so I won't invent one.

Where I ranThe Fairhope Pier 4 N Beach Rd, Fairhope, AL 36532
For Alabama I ran near the Fairhope Pier and along the bay, covering 5.68 miles in 1:03:01. The watch gives me an 11:05 average pace and 211 feet of climbing. On the run I noticed the little pond and bridge that became the Art photograph. I spent much longer trying to name that picture than I did figuring out where to run. The run has numbers, the photo has a bridge, and the title eventually became Fairhope. That is enough administration for one state.
